Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Dated "1831", attributed to the Ingell Pottery, Taunton, MA, 1831, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with a large impressed and cobalt-highlighted flowering vine design. Reverse with large brushed date, "1831", underscored by dots. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 2 3/4" hairline from rim on front. A 4" hairline to rim on reverse. A horizontal Y-shaped surface line on front, not visible on interior. A short, faint line at base, not visible on interior. A 3" surface line at base on side of jar, continuing 3/4" onto underside. Some spots of fry to cobalt. A 7/8" in-the-firing chip to base on front.
