Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Chalice, Coblenz, Germany origin, 19th century, flared chalice with pedestal base, incised, "St. Servais", on one side and "IHS" with a cross on the reverse, both inscriptions surrounded by impressed foliate borders. Additional impressed foliate motifs below and on base. Impressed floral motifs on each side. Cobalt highlights throughout. Underside incised with various cobalt-highlighted inscriptions, among them the word, "Coblenz", a stoneware-producing city in Germany. Three hairlines from rim. A small in-the-firing chip to top of rim. H 7 3/4".
