Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Running Bird Decoration, attributed to the White's Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1875, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird "running" atop a stylized branch. Slip-trailed "6" above. Includes tin covers of an unknown age. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Heavy chipping to handle at base on reverse. Numerous shallow rim chips, some of which are glazed over. Heavy chipping to spout. Chips to one ear. A small iron ping near base on one side. A base chip.
