Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA", New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stylized branch. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Two small chips to left handle. Two small chips to shoulder molding on reverse. Some fry to cobalt. Light wear to cobalt on capacity mark. Tight lines extending across underside.
