Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Handled Bowl with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1870, large-sized, ovoid bowl with footed base, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover plant. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A visually-appealing form and the first of its type we have seen produced in Baltimore. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a thirty-five years Midwestern collection. A thin sealed crack extending across underside, which also continues 5" up base on one side and 2" up base on opposite side. A thin 7" crack on side of bowl, extending through handle. H 7 1/2 ; Diameter 15 1/4".
