Rare and Fine One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Fish Scale Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, probably Manhattan, NY, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and ribbed vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a thickly-slip-trailed "fish scale" motif. Excellent form, color, and condition. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small, in-the-firing base chip and some in-the-firing surface fissures to underside, not visible on interior.
