Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SUGAR VALLEY / PA.", John Gerstung, Clinton County, PA, circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a stylized design of brushed flowers emanating from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An elusive and desirable Central Pennsylvania maker's mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
