Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Double-Bird Decoration, Stamped "FORT EDWARD / POTTERY CO.", circa 1859, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of two parrots perched in the crook of a branch, flanking a looping line. Desirable maker's mark with excellent decoration and color. A 5 3/4" crack from rim on left side of crock, extending through handle. Numerous tiny spots of separation in cobalt slip due to the thickness of its application.
