Fine Stoneware "DEMUTH'S SNUFF" Tobacco Jar, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG", Pennsylvania origin, circa 1880, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising "DEMUTH'S / CELEBRATED / SNUFF / ESTABLISHED 1770 / LANCASTER, PA.". Cobalt highlights to F.H. Cowden maker's mark above. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Two minor chips to bottom edge, one of which is glazed over. A minor chip to exterior of rim. A small chip and minor wear to inner rim where a lid would rest. H 9".
