Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Two-Color-Slip and Incised Decoration, probably Midwestern origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, featuring an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower emanating from a leafy branch. Unusual Albany slip highlight to interior of blossom and surrounding its outer edge. Brushed cobalt swags to shoulder. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in a Michigan family. Long horizontal crack at base, primarily on reverse, connecting to a thinner crack extending across most of underside. Minor base nicks.
