Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Star Motif, Stenciled "STAR POTTERY.", Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1875, tapered jar with semi-rounded wax sealer rim and tooling to body and shoulder, decorated wiith a crisply-stenciled design of a star with detailed center. Shoulder decorated with the stenciled cobalt signature "STAR POTTERY." below a freehand stripe. With excellent size and decoration, this jar is the first of its kind we have ever offered. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased decades ago, consigned from California. Some small chips to shoulder molding and inner wax sealer rim. A 1 1/4" line to base on front, continuing approximately 1" onto underside. A second faint, tiny line at base on front. A 1 3/8" line at base on reverse, continuing 1/2" on underside. A glazed-over stone ping and bloated spot to left side. H 6 3/4".
