Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Thistle Decoration, Stamped "E.L. FARRAR / BURLINGTON. VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a stylized brushed design of a thistle flanked by other foliate brushwork. Appealing design. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in a Michigan family. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder. A 2 7/8" loss to spout and handle area on right side of jug. A short, faint line in handle, which does not extend entirely through handle. A base chip on front and small in-the-firing ping on reverse.
