Fine One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Impressed Design, Stamped "WARNE & LETTS 1807 / S AMBOY N JERSY", Thomas Warne & Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, 1807, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and coggle column motif around shoulder. Front impressed with two large, scallop-edged crescents with cobalt highlights throughout. Shoulder with additional cloud-shaped cobalt brushwork. This example features particularly strong color and glazing for Warne & Letts stoneware. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Horizontal crack at base, connecting to a hairline across underside. A few short, minor vertical lines at base. H 10 1/4".
