Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, James River, VA origin, circa 1830-1850, ovoid jug with footed base, narrow spout, and ribbed strap handle, decorated with a large brushed foliate design extending across the front and additional brushwork along the handle. Very nice condition with a shallow spout chip, a shallow 1 1/4" base chip, which appears to be in-the-firing, and a small in-the-firing bit of clay adhered near base.
