Scarce One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, probably Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and vertical loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed drape or "fish scale" motif. This jar includes a brushed cobalt highlight to the upper terminal of only one handle, the other lacking any cobalt. Excellent early form. A 4" crack from rim. Shallow chipping to rim and base. Light surface wear to one handle. H 8 1/2".
