Scarce Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "LEWIS & GARDINER / HUNTINGTON. L I", New York State origin, circa 1827-1829, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed cobalt highlights to the maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Several rim chips. Additional heavy chipping to inner rim where a lid would rest. Two short hairlines at base.
