Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Plant Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR., ROCHESTER, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed plant with fern-like leaves. Slip-trailed "4" to shoulder. Lightly-brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Excellent condition with some staining.
