One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," Pennsylvania origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated with a series of brushed swags, applied over whitish slip. John Bell maker's mark to shoulder. Excellent, bowl-shaped form. Provenance: Recently found in Maine. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small in-the-firing base chip and a minor chip to top edge of rim, possibly in-the-firing.
