Very Rare Presentation Spongeware Sugar Jar, Inscribed "SUGAR / MISS H.K. SHIRLEY. / 5352/ A/. EASTON AVE. / ST. LOUIS MO. / XMAS.1903", Midwestern U.S. origin, 1903, semi-ovoid form with dramatic, flared based and vertical rim molding, the front decorated in cobalt with stenciled crosses and arrows surrounding the inscription "SUGAR / MISS H.K. SHIRLEY. / 5352/ A./ EASTON AVE. / ST. LOUIS MO. / XMAS.1903". Base with heavy cobalt sponge decoration. Excellent form and highly unusual presentation inscription. Missing lid. A few rim chips. A short hairline from rim on interior, not visible on exterior. H 10".
