Outstanding Stoneware Churn with Folky Cobalt Turkey Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with finely-formed collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a heavily-brushed design of a turkey standing atop a stylized ground. The decoration is executed in an appealing folk art style, composed of numerous wide brushstrokes. Excellent color and large size to the decoration, measuring approximately 9" high by 8" wide. The piece's relatively small churn form, measuring approximately two gallons, adds to its desirability. Provenance: Descended in the family of legendary Ohio antiques dealer, Clark Garrett. Very nice overall condition. A chip to each handle. A short line to right handle. Rim with a 7/8" chip and another shallow chip. Two minor, glazed-over base chips and a few typical in-the-firing contact marks to bottom edge. H 14 1/2".
