Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.C. WAELDE. / NORTH.BAY", New York State origin, circa 1860, semi-ovoid churn with flared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled flowering plant design above a slip-trailed wreath accented with spots. Decorated above with a slip-trailed number 4 underscored by graduated dashes. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Unusual form for this maker, featuring strong decoration and superior color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
