Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt House Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with flattened rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a house atop a hill beside a pine tree. Decoration includes ground cover to the left of the tree and in the foreground, as well as cobalt accents surrounding the house. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Desirable Norton motif and appealing one-gallon size. Large restored area to reverse. Restored area to interior of house, not affecting cobalt. In-the-firing recessed section to front.
