Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flatted rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-slip-trailed floral design consisting of two circular blossoms resembling eyes, extending from a central stem with scrolled leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable small size and excellent color. Excellent condition with a glazed-over, 7/8" horizontal line above left handle and some typical light wear to cobalt.
