Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.", circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed flowering plant featuring a fan-shaped blossom, a daisy with spotted center, and a graduated series of buds. Excellent detail throughout. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. An 11 3/4" filled and colored crack from rim on reverse. A sealed 4 3/4" crack from rim on front. A sealed 4 1/2" crack from rim on far right side of jar's front. A 1 1/4" filled and colored rim chip on front. A second minor filled and colored rim chip on front.
