Very Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Landscape Decoration, probably New Jersey origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with artistically-brushed design of a mountain beside four pine trees with elaborate foreground. Brushed "5.G." on reverse. A highly unusual design, reminiscent of oil paintings of the Hudson River school. A rim chip on reverse. Otherwise excellent condition.
