Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Drape-and-Tassel Design, Stamped "J EATON", South River, NJ origin, second quarter 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout and ribbed handle, decorate with a brushed, stylized drape-and-tassel motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Rare mark with impressive form and size. Several shallow chips to underside at bottom edge. Several chips to handle, including a 1 1/4" chip to edge of handle. A chip to top of spout. A 3" hairline from rim on reverse. H 16 1/4".
