One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated with three graduated groups of cobalt swags. Impressed with Solomon Bell maker's mark at shoulder. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some typical firing flaws, including an in-the-firing chip at base.
