Exceptional Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled collar, and applied strap handle, decorated with a two-stemmed flowering plant design, which emanates from the base and extends around the sides of the pitcher. Additional swag decoration between the stems. Collar decorated with a swags flanking the spout, heavy cobalt around the rim, and a tulip in the Parr style on each side. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. An excellent example of Baltimore stoneware in all respects. The inclusion of Baltimore tulip and clover variants on the same vessel is highly unusual. Excellent overall condition. Two filled and colored chips to foot, measuring 1 1/2" and 1". A partially-colored, shallow chip to foot, which was created in the firing. Some faint lines on underside, not visible on interior. H 13 3/4".
