Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. HART / OGDENSBURGH", New York State origin, circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird's bust with crest and striped neck, emanating from a looping line design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A shallow chip and a small stone ping to rim. Wear to inner rim where a lid would rest. A small glazed-over stone ping near base on left side of jar's front. Some fry to cobalt.
