One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A.E. SMITH & SONS, / MANUFACTURERS, / 38 Peck Slip, N.Y.", circa 1860, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, decorated with a large brushed tulip. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Made at the Smith family manufactory in Norwalk, Connecticut, and advertising their Manhattan storefront. Some fry to cobalt. Large X-shaped crack on underside and large circular hairline around circumference of underside.
