Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Signature "J. Eberly & Bro.", Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with three brushed tulips. Body features a highly unusual and large signature "J. Eberly & Co" brushed vertically in cobalt slip. Incised "X" on top of rim. 5 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim. A few short, minor surface lines in rim. A 1 1/4" flake to base. Two very minor rim nicks and a few very minor nicks to shoulder molding.
