Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt-Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with incised circumferential banding, tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed fuchsia vine design extending across the front. Brushed cobalt stripe below rim. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed "4" at shoulder. Tight lines to underside. Two chips to one handle, one of which is glazed over. Two chips to opposite handle. Staining and some light surface wear.
