Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Cross Decoraton, Stamped "JORDAN," New York State origin, third quarter 19th century, semi-ovoid jar with tooled accents, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with three dotted crosses or stylized floral blossoms, applied in bright cobalt slip. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent maker, decoration, and color. A small glazed-over chip to one handle. A nick and light wear to opposite handle. Chips and wear to inner rim where a lid would rest, the longest measuring 1 1/8". Some light staining to base.
