Rare Three-Gallon Poughkeepsie, NY Stoneware Advertising Jug, attributed to Ethan S. Fox, Athens, NY, circa 1840, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising "E J BOOTH / GROCER / CORNER WASHINGTON / & MAIN ST 225 / POUGHKEEPSIE". Front decorated with a large fan-shaped floral design characteristic of pieces made by Ethan S. Fox of Athens, NY. A good example of New York State advertising stoneware. A large sealed horizontal crack extending from left side of jug across reverse and onto right side of jug. Some fry to cobalt. Minor chipping to base on reverse. A chip to underside. Some extremely minor spout wear. Some faint in-the-firing surface lines, which do not extend through body of jug.
