Exceptional One-Quart Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Remmey, Sr., Baltimore, MD, circa 1820-1825, thin-walled pitcher with ovoid midsection, pronounced foot, and tooled collar with oversized spout, the body decorated with a brushed fan-shaped floral design below a band of swags. Additional swag decoration to rim and heavily-brushed cobalt to spout. This elegant form, inspired by fine imported English ceramics of the period, is extremely rare among American stoneware products. The distinctive floral motif is consistent with products made at the Baltimore Stoneware Manufactory, owned by merchant, Henry Myers, and operated by New-York-trained potter, Henry Remmey, Sr.. Provenance: Excavated in Baltimore City. Professionally-restored handle. Professional restoration to majority of spout. Base in three pieces and reglued. H 6 1/4".
