Scarce Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Parrot Decoration, Stamped "S.L. PEWTRESS & CO / FAIRHAVEN CONN," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested parrot perched on crossed branches with a circular flower accent and dotted trails. Some fry to cobalt. Crack and flake at end of one handle, probably in-the-firing. A minor iron ping to shoulder. Two thin cracks from rim on reverse, measuring 4" and 3".
