One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Unusual Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a bold slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with two circular blossoms resembling bull's eyes. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusual design for this maker. Jar broken into two pieces and reglued, with two additional cracks extending off of broken section. Chip on interior of rim.
