Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Spittoon, Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1890, with footed base, tooled midsection, and carved oval opening at shoulder, decorated with heavy splashes of green and brown over a cream-colored slip ground. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased decades ago in the Mid-Atlantic region. Heavy chipping to base. A few minor flecks of glaze loss to body. A minor nick to carved oval opening. Typical light wear to opening on top surface. H 3 1/2" ; D 6 3/4".
