Scarce One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R. BTT / W.," Richard Butt, Washington, D.C., circa 1840, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and curved tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a semi-circular vine bearing leaves and a central flower blossom. Few example bearing this variation of Richard Butt's maker's mark are known. An in-the-firing contact mark / surface chip to right side of jar's front. A small glazed-over nick to right of capacity mark. A small 1/2" stone pop to side of jar. A 7/8" chip and minor nick to right handle. A small chip to left handle. Some wear to interior of rim.
