Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Wreath Decoration and 1866 Date, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," New York State origin, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed flowering wreath surrounding the date "1866". Additional graduated dashes above date. Cobalt highlights to maker's and capacity marks. Long, poorly-restored crack on reverse, extending across underside and 3 1/2" up front of churn. 7/8" glazed-over iron ping to right side of rim. 6 1/2" crack from rim on front, extending from a large restored chip. Faint 2 1/2" Y-shaped line on side of churn, not visible on interior. Small iron ping to same side. Base chip on reverse. Flake to underside at edge. Chips and wear to interior where a lid would rest.
