Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Wave Decoration, attributed to the Wilkes Street Pottery, Alexandria, VA, circa 1825, finely-potted ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and rounded rim, decorated with a vivid cobalt wave design around the shoulder, embellished with tassel-shaped foliate designs. Impressed "1/2" at shoulder. Pieces with this distinctive form, decoration, and capacity mark, are most often found bearing an "H. SMITH & CO." or "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C." maker's mark. A base chip and two minor base nicks, one of which is glazed-over. A glazed-over rim chip and some small chips to bottom edge of rim molding.
