Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "C.W. BRAUN / BUFFALO, N.Y.," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly slip-trailed design of a bird with turned head and heavily-striped body, perched on a plant. Excellent decoration and color. Bird designs by Braun are difficult-to-find. Rim chips. Small chip to one handle. Approximately 4" X-shaped surface line under one handle, not visible on interior.
