Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, attributed to R.J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1880, a quart-sized cylindrical jar with cobalt swag decoration, paired with a two-gallon cylindrical jar with three flowers around the shoulder. Quart-sized jar in excellent, as-made condition with some dark mottling to clay on one side. Two-gallon jar with a 9 1/2" vertical crack on side, extending 1 1/2" onto underside, as well as a small glazed-over stone ping near base, and a tiny, in-the-firing nick near base. H (of smaller jar) 7 1/8".
