One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to R.J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with two brushed tulips hanging from leafy stems. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a scalloped line of cobalt underneath. Crack extending across underside, and onto base, where it forms a series of long horizontal lines. This crack also extends 2" up opposite side of crock.
