Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoon, New York State or Massachusetts origin, mid 19th century, with concave sides, stepped base, and large rim molding with incised line accents, the shoulder with carved semi-circular opening, the sides decorated with brushed cobalt tulips. Impressed and cobalt-highlighted "3" below opening at shoulder. Large iron ping and minor nick to rim. Some light surface wear around opening at shoulder. Faint 1 1/4" hairline at base. A small chip and two nicks to molding above foot. 1 1/4" base chip along with two minor base nicks. Small chip near edge on underside. H 5 1/2" ; Diameter 8".
