Rare One-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "J. SWANN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with rounded rim, footed base, and applied tab handles. Shoulder impressed with rare John Swann maker's mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently discovered in Southwestern Virginia. 1" chip to one handle. 1 3/4" flake to opposite handle. Several base chips. Shallow 3/4" chip or contact mark to rim.
