Unusual Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar Incised Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1820-1835, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with an abstract incised and cobalt-highlighted design. It is possible that the decoration represents a honey comb, and that this jar served as a honey pot. Hairline across underside, continuing 3/4" onto base. Rim chips. Contact mark including some dryness and fry to decoration on one side. Two hairlines from rim, measuring 5" and 2 3/4". An additional short hairline to shoulder.
