Two Manganese-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG," VA origin, circa 1890, pair of one-gallon jars of similar cylindrical form with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with brushed reddish-brown manganese swags. One in excellent, essentially as-made condition. The other with hairlines on underside, one of which extends 1" onto base, a dry whitish drip of in-the-firing residue to side, and a few rim chips, and a base chip.
