Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W ROBERTS BINGHAMTON NY," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and the thick spout, the front decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird with fan-shaped tail, spotted wing, and striped breast, perched on a vine morning glory vine. Unusual one-gallon size with excellent decoration. 2 1/2" hairline descending from spout on reverse. Horizontal crack in base of handle. A few tiny, in-the-firing wrinkles in clay on front.
