Scarce Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "A. CONRAD & Co. / NEW GENEVA. PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooling to midsection and shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles. Decorated with five freehand cobalt stripes across the top half of the jar. Bottom half of jar featuring Conrad maker's stenciling flanked along with two stenciled stars, stenciled flourishes, and a band of geometric stenciling. Freehand "4" flanked by dashes at base. A visually-appealing combination of freehand and stenciled decoration exhibiting good color. Restoration to damage along rim area on front and side of jar. An additional shallow rim chip. A few minor chips to shoulder molding. Two large chips to reverse side of one handle.
